Fusing Traditional Teachings With Business at School

This past school year, Carrie - our Founder, worked with students at amiskwaciy Academy for a new school initiative that provides business experience and education. The goal of the program was to help students connnect with the ancestors' teaching in a modern way. It began with learning about traditional plants then understanding the process of creating and distributing a product for sale.

A Hands On Learning Experience

With the emphasis being on experience-based education, the students actually went through the process of creating and distributing a product. This year, they made Sweetgrass Mineral Bath. They had to develop the product, package it, market it, and sell it.

It was a wonderful way to engage students in the local market while also enjoying and learning the process.

Distributing Their Product

After learning the steps to create mineral bath, they also had to market it online and generate sales. The students also had the opportunity to submit their product to Indigenous Box, a local gifting service. Their Sweetgrass Mineral Bath was included in a limited edition box.

We hope this initiative continues for future students and we can't wait to see what they come up with next!
